Taking the Christ out of Christmas?

December 28, 2009

Through my many endeavors on the vast internet, I stumbled across this:

The whole idea, for those who are big fans of tl;dr, is that groups such as the ACLU are trying to take, as the title of this post denotes, the Christ out of Christmas.

I’ll let you process this for a second before I continue.

Good? Alright.

Personally, I’m all for letting everyone celebrate their holidays in however they deem fit. It is part of their culture, their history, their ancestry, regardless of what religion they practice. Heck, I can honestly say I’m not religious in any sense of the word, yet you’ll find me with any caroler on the street sing just as loudly and vigorously as they are.

More than that, though, it is a time where I actually realize how much of an impact my family and friends have had in my life. Christmas Eve, I go to my aunt’s house where we eat, open presents, share stories, laugh, love… Christmas Day, I enjoy a relative peace with my immediate family, one of the few reprieves this family gets. In that sense, at least personally, Christmas has evolved from a celebration of Jesus Christ’s birth to the reappearance of the love that we should all feel for each other.

What does this have to do with the article? Jesus Christ preached love. He said that the two most important Commandments given were Love Thy Neighbor and Love God. These were Christ’s teachings. So, what, these guys, who want to push their ideals on other people and want everyone to conform to them, want to just dash his teachings because they see an inspirational image of Mary and Joe in the manger? Nevermind the fact that Christ was the proclaimed Son of God, he was an incredibly wise man, one whose teachings shouldn’t be forgotten because you have a beef with whatever god is out there.

Well, there’s my two cents. If anyone reads this, go nuts.

And it came from the deep, and the people screamed in horror…

…as they looked upon my hideous and shell-covered body, writhing in chaos. It was then that they realized that I am delicious.
